3Com® IP Messaging Module
Integrated Communications Using One Interface
Part of the 3Com® Convergence Applications Suite, the IP Messaging
Module centralizes and integrates voice mail, e-mail, and fax mail
so users can combine communications modes and take advantage of
powerful message handling and distribution features.
Fast and flexible messaging makes employees more productive and can
strengthen ties with customers. Using the module, employees can see
their voice and fax mail as e-mail, and hear e-mail messages over
the phone. They can control call paths with find me/follow me
capabilities, sending all calls or special calls to their choice of
phones and determining response times and messaging media that meet
changing needs. Users can take advantage of presence capabilities to
enhance the efficiency of initiating contacts. And they can schedule
message delivery as well as send voice mails to an individual or
group of fellow users aided by extensive, easily maintained
distribution list capabilities.
The highly reliable module is equipped with RAID systems or optional
SAN interfaces to avoid single points of failure. And scripting
capabilities let staff implement user interface prompts and logic
that models releases of popular voicemail systems, minimizing user
training.

3Com® IP Conferencing Module
Advanced Voice, Video, and Data Collaboration
Part of the 3Com® Convergence Applications Suite, the 3Com IP
Conferencing Module creates a rich collaboration environment to
serve the organization and its customers. It enables exceptionally
easy-to-use multimedia conferencing and data exchanges for employees
in the same building or in widely dispersed locations.
Users add conference members by simply dragging and dropping names.
Plus, they enjoy one-click access to video and data communications,
including instant messaging and file sharing. Unified control lets
employees avoid having to juggle diverse systems or memorize
complicated setup procedures.
A presence capability allow users to determine the availability of
potential conference attendees before calling by observing on-hook
and off-hook status for both IP and PSTN phones. A conference host
can easily monitor the presence of participants through the
interface, eliminating tedious roll taking.
With the easier and more powerful collaboration capabilities
provided by the IP Conferencing module, businesses can gain
operational efficiency, decrease project cycle times, and minimize
the trouble and expense of traveling to meetings.

3Com® Presence Module
Determine Availability Before Attempting a Contact
Part of the 3Com® Convergence Applications Suite, the 3Com Presence
module gives employees the ability to detect whether a user is
connected to the network, and whether that person is available and
willing to communicate. This helps avoid delays and minimizes
voicemail tag.
The 3Com presence-enabled convergence solution interoperates easily
with standards-based networks and provides enterprise-level security
and reliability. The 3Com Convergence Center client, a
cross-application interface, makes it easy for users to quickly make
calls and set up ad hoc conferences by dragging and dropping names
from a user-defined buddy list. The presence module supplies this
list with constantly updated availability information, including how
the called party would like to be contacted.
The result is a rich, real-time collaborative environment that
supports a range of contact methods—phone, instant messaging (IM),
video, and data exchange. These enhanced connectivity options enable
improved business operations and strengthened customer
relationships.

3Com® IP Telecommuting Module
Securely Access Corporate Communications Systems Over the
Internet
The 3Com® IP Telecommuting Module enables remote users to access
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based communications services over
the Internet. Working in conjunction with existing firewalls, the
module provides access to corporate SIP IP communications systems
while blocking other protocols. A choice of DMZ or standalone
configuration offers flexible connection options. No special
hardware or software is required at the user end.
This 3Com solution avoids the security risks that can result from
the inability of conventional firewalls to recognize SIP dynamic
port allocation. The only way to enable these firewalls for SIP
traffic is to open the ports, exposing the enterprise network to
security risks. The 3Com IP Telecommuting Module, however, provides
SIP-aware security by first monitoring SIP signaling protocols as
they arrive, then assigning and managing the dynamic addresses by
performing SIP proxy and registrar functions. Because the registrar
contains the private IP addresses of users inside the network, a
firewall is able to securely relay SIP signaling to the proper
destinations through UDP or TCP ports.
